Having assisted Cockatoo Island Mining Pty Ltd (CIM) in the sale of mining tenements on Cockatoo Island from Pluton Resources Limited (Receiver and Manager Appointed) (In Liquidation) in October 2020, Pragma Lawyers has assisted CIM achieve a win in the battle for control over the airstrip on the remote island.
On 13 June 2022, the Warden’s Court delivered its final decision in respect of Cockatoo Island Mining Infrastructure Pty Ltd., a CIM subsidiary’s application for a miscellaneous licence for the purpose of accessing the roads and the airstrip on Cockatoo Island in the Buccaneer Archipelago.
A team of Pragma lawyers from the dispute resolution team advised on the application and the objection from neighbouring tenement holder Pearl Gull Iron Limited (ASX:PLG), with the Objectors unsuccessfully submitting to the Court that the grant of a miscellaneous licence to our client would injuriously affect existing rights in respect of their mining lease.

CIM now has unfettered access to both the roads and airstrip on the island, which greatly assists in the imminent recommencement of mining operations at the historic iron ore mine.
